A message from Sami Kinsey, Principal:
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Hornsby–Dunlap Elementary! At Hornsby we constantly work together as a staff to challenge our students, encourage a love of learning, and increase parent involvement. Our campus of about 620 students serves Pre-K through 6th grade students in a rural setting that is about 20 minutes east of downtown Austin in the Del Valle Independent School District. We offer many of the following programs to our students to meet their needs, including special services to students who qualify as learning disabled, dyslexic, or need speech therapy. Other intervention programs include gifted and talented, Title I math, FOCUS behavior program, and English as a Second Language, content mastery, dyslexia, and day/after school tutoring. Our programs have proven to be effective and together with parental support our campus has achieved TEA Recognized status for the last 3 years along with the best attendance awards in DVISD!
If you are a parent or community member, we welcome your participation and support during the school year. Parents are automatically members of the Parent Teacher Organization and we encourage you to become involved. Community members are always needed as mentors and volunteers and your help would be greatly appreciated. Please visit our PTO link from our school website for volunteer ideas and contact information. On our website you will also find our monthly campus newsletter, The News Hound, which contains important upcoming event notices.
At Hornsby we believe in “synergy,” the idea that two heads are better than one, or 1+1=3. We welcome your involvement and look forward to working together to reach our goal: student success!
