We envision a
learning community where the best available technology is used as a tool and
applied in the most efficient and effective way to improve learning and the
learning environment. Technology should not be a goal, but a means to a goal.
This includes all aspects of district procedures. We believe that technology
should be used as a powerful tool to help us complete our mission.
Our vision is a district where students, parents, faculty, staff, adult learners, and other community members have easy and equal access to the technology they need including, but not limited to video, voice and data networks and the equipment at the end of those networks. We see classrooms where students have access to global resources through network connections that also allow them to communicate with teachers and students worldwide as easily as within the classroom.
Technology is also a tool to be utilized by all staff members in the support functions of the district. Technology resources that facilitate the operation of the organization must be in place to ensure that employees, and therefore the organization, are as effective and efficient as possible. As with the training of teachers in utilizing technology in the delivery of instruction, appropriate professional development must be provided to all District staff
The Executive Summary of “Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics” by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics opens with the following statement:
Our society is entering a new age—the Information Age, a time in which information is the raw material and communication is its means of production. The transition from an industrial to an information society can be attributed to increased availability of affordable technology, including computers and calculators. Technology is changing the work-place, the home, and daily life...
Students will use calculators and computers as tools
to become literate citizens of tomorrow.
The Long-Range Plan for Technology of the Texas State Board of Education “plots the course for meeting educational needs through technology and for implementing concomitant changes in education. Both technology and the field of education are fluid; applying advances in the former to the practice of the latter can help achieve a vision of education that has been as yet unattainable.”
Attaining this vision requires effort on the part of educators to keep up with technology and to guide the development of technology to best meet our educational goals. Educators must have opportunities to understand that the use of technology does not replace the “basics” but rather makes this knowledge all the more critical and powerful.
The application of technology benefits every subject area. A fundamental aspect of this plan is the expansion of the infrastructure necessary to meet teachers’ and students’ curricular needs through the first decade of the 21st century. This plan encourages coordination across all education programs for all learners. The ideas in this plan help to ensure equitable access by all students to both the technology infrastructure and to the learning resources.
The
Del Valle ISD
Vision
Statement for Technology:
To provide comprehensive, equitable, ethical and efficient use of existing and emerging technology to engage, challenge and nurture diverse learners.
Del
Valle ISD operates under the following technology philosophy:
We believe that technology is an essential tool that should be available in all classrooms and offices in support of our district mission. It is not an education itself, and it does not and should not take the place of a well-trained professional teacher. It can, however, motivate students and enhance the curriculum, and bring to the fingertips of every student a storehouse of research and information that expands student learning and strengthens teaching.
Statement
of Philosophy
In recognizing the ever changing
influences of technology in all aspects of our lives, the Del Valle Independent
School District is committed to providing every student with technology related
instruction
The educational process can be supported by the use of technology as both the object of instruction and as a tool for learning without replacing the role and expertise of the teacher. Technology is a necessary tool for instructional delivery at all ability levels throughout the curricular areas in order to maximize communication and thinking skills.
All students must be able to function effectively in an increasingly technological society. Students will understand the ways in which technology is permeating all aspects of society and will be able to meaningfully apply this acquired knowledge.
